Journeymen's CIRCLES course is a positive mentoring group for boys featuring weekly in-school group meetups, engaging experiential learning activities, and fun outdoor adventures.
In a safe, supportive, and empowering community of their peers, volunteer adult mentors, and trained facilitators, participants explore the 7 CIRCLES themes of Compassion, Integrity, Resiliency, Community, Leadership, Equity & Service.
All of our meetups involve utilizing a form of the "talking circle", during which all participants practice authentic communication, speaking and listening from the heart. In-school CIRCLES meetups are free to attend, and fees for outdoor adventures and off-site trips are sliding scale with fee waivers available for those in need.
CIRCLES begins the week of September 25th with the following proposed schedule:
Chautauqua Elementary School (4th & 5th Grade): TBD
McMurray Middle School: Wednesdays 11:45am - 12:45am
Vashon Island High School: Wednesdays 10am - 11am
Each group meets approximately 1x/week, is capped at 15 students, and will have at least 2 trained adults present at all times.
We will be hosting an open "Community Circle" on Wednesday, 9/27 for anyone interested in experiencing the talking circle format and wishing to learn more about the course. Parents, school staff, and other youth advocates are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP at www.journeymen.us/open-circles.
CIRCLES will be available to all students at VISD grades 4th-12th who identify as male. If initial demand exceeds capacity we may intentionally hold space for certain students based on need.
Please note that completion of this form does not guarantee participation in CIRCLES. Journeymen and VISD staff will review submissions and allocate space as deemed appropriate.
