Black History Month is a time to celebrate the ach Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of African Americans to our society. It's a time to recognize the struggles and challenges that have been overcome, and to celebrate the progress that has been made in the pursuit of equality and justice for all.

One organization that deserves recognition during Black History Month is "Becoming a Man" (BAM) . This Chicago-based non-profit focuses on providing support and guidance to young black men, helping them to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.

It's also important to acknowledge the challenges that BAM and similar organizations face in their work. Underserved communities often lack the resources and support that other communities take for granted, and this can make it difficult to provide the kind of comprehensive support that these young men need. Despite these challenges, BAM is continuing to make a positive impact in the lives of young black men, and that is something that deserves recognition and appreciation.

By supporting organizations like BAM, we can help ensure that all young people have the tools and resources they need to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.

One Village recently teamed up with Oakland High S One Village recently teamed up with Oakland High School in Tacoma, WA to start a new mentoring group for their students.

Our facilitators left todays session glowing with inspiration from the students vibrant spirit and deep wisdom. One of our traditions at One Village and Journeymen is to utilize the power of play to facilitate connection and community, while allowing it to steer into rich dialogue and meaningful conversation.

Today we explored both the helpful and the harmful aspects of competition. Through experiential learning and play, our students gained insight on our tendency to assume competition, when in reality collaboration is often the best path forward.

When asked where collaboration is most needed in the world today, we heard pleas from our youth for nonviolence, to end wars, to share resources rather than hoard more than one needs, and to see the beauty in all people rather than compare ourselves to one another.

We are continually inspired by the youth in our community. With young leaders like this, we know in our hearts that the future is bright.

It has been an emotional week here for the One Vil It has been an emotional week here for the One Village team & greater community filled with tragedy, loss and grief.

In just one weeks time the youth of our community have gathered to grieve the loss of a dear friend to suicide.

In just one week's time the youth of our community have been impacted by the tragic loss of a classmate to gun violence.

In just one week’s time.

Long ago, villages used to gauge the wellbeing of their community by looking at the wellbeing of their youth. Sadly, in many ways it seems our greater culture has lost its way and forgotten what's truly important in this life.

May we, as the adults and elders of our communities, find a way to cultivate a future where our youth can feel love, safety and belonging.

May we, as the adults and elders of our communities, find a way to truly prioritize the wellbeing of our youth so we all can thrive.

May we find a way.

~ A Tradition of Gratitude ~ Celebrate the season ~ A Tradition of Gratitude ~

Celebrate the season of generosity by joining us in this simple practice!

Generosity is the natural byproduct of an opened heart. That is why here at Journeymen, we include the act of embodied gratitude in every experience we co-create.

Before a meal. At the end of a circle. As a way to connect 1-1 with a new friend... Gratitude can look many different ways. And sometimes. it lasts quite a while, but usually, it is just a moment to pause, connect, reflect, and celebrate something or someone that matters to us.

Today, we want you to know that as a member of our community, you matter to us. We are grateful that you've chosen to be a part of this growing village that is helping young people thrive through every stage of their lives.

And, as part of our community, we invite you join us in creating (or rebooting) your own simple tradition of gratitude somewhere in your life.

For some easy ideas, you might explore:
- Making a daily entry/note in a journal
- Sharing a round of gratitude before family meals
- Starting a work meeting or personal conversation with gratitude

And if you feel called to express your gratitude in another way that matters to many, this #GivingTuesday we're reminding folks that you can create an easy tradition of giving by making a monthly donation to support our work.

We hear often that small, regular donations is easier on our donors, and it also helps us stay on top of our life-changing work through all the seasons.

This year, all gifts received between now and the end of the year will be matched 1-1, including amounts received next year as part a new monthly donation. Just use the link in our bio, choose an amount that works for you, and the rest is taken care of.
As the nights draw in, this season invites us to t As the nights draw in, this season invites us to take a good look at ourselves, our lives, what matters and what is calling to be released... So the timing of this evening event where we can join Michael Meade in-person to seek the healing energies of spirit and soul through the pathways of story, poetry and song feels especially timely.

Here's more information about what promises to be a deeply meaningful and nourishing event:

"The growing sense of conflict and anxiety makes it more essential that we find ways of making meaning and bringing healing to both nature and culture. We are in a collective rite of passage that seeks to awaken the heart of humanity. Yet, if we cannot sustain the vitality of our own being we become unable to change the conditions of community and culture.

The heart of the human drama concerns whether we are becoming greater vessels for the flow of life. Spirit calls us to a higher sense of self, while soul would connect us more deeply to the heart of nature and the soul of the world. When in touch with soul’s inner thread we can find the arts and practices that allow our spirits to awaken and our hearts to open. To be fully alive, making more soul and incarnating spirit is the only thing that satisfies the longings seeded in our heart’s inner garden."
